My dog's enucleated eye socket is swollen and draining. Is it serious?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 15 years and 1 month old | 5 lbs

My dog had enucleation of his right eye about four years ago yesturday the eye socket swole a little and tonight the socket broke open in the corner we cleaned it up and he seems to be happier should I be worried or is he fine

Hello. When an eye is removed, all of the supporting structures should be removed as well, including any and all tear-producing glands. If there is some sort of fluid accumulating, perhaps there was some glandular tissue left behind or some type of infection. It is also important to make sure there is no issue with an abscessed upper tooth.
