Why is my 2-month-old ringneck losing wing and tail feathers?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 15 days old

My ringneck is losing his wing feathers and tail feathers. The losed tail feathers look like that it was broken and tail fethers look like that it came out completely with than point hook. He is young. He is only 2 and half month old. Is it normal? And his tail feather is not grown fully. It is in the process of growing.

Thanks for reaching out about Tilo and including a photo. It is not normal for feathers to fall out in birds this young. The picture appears as if the feather is fractured and broken. Review nutrition as lack of protein and vitamins can lead to weak feathers. Correct husbandry to prevent falling and traumatizing feathers. A veterinary visit can help to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment/husbandry recommendations. Good luck.
