My cat has a swollen, smelly vaginal area with discharge and sores.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs

My cat lane has a swollen vaginal area with stuff coming out that smells bad. She did had two sores/blisters there, I've been giving her a butt bath. I've been using unscented feminine wash with a water wipe in the bath. Her sister Lois passed away from 3 bladder/kidney stones back in September.

Hello. This looks like a very severe infection. The topical washes that you are using may be irritating the area more as they are not formulated for feline skin. This kitty really needs to see a veterinarian to be examined and treated. At minimum, she needs a prescription antibiotic. Your vet may want to do a urinalysis or an X-ray . Please try to have her seen ASAP.

Your cat is probably suffering from vaginitis (vaginal infection) she will need to be treated with antibiotics, a vet visit will be necessary, if money is an issue please contact a cat charity in your area of living, they should be able to help.

This is likely to be due to a recurrent vaginitis or probably a uterine infection (stump pyometra). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
