Vet's away: Can I remove my bird's broken wing bandage myself?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

Hi a few weeks ago I found this bird in snow and one of his wings was broken.I took him for operation and the surgeon put pin in his wing 23 days ago.it was planned to take off his wing's bandage maximum after 20 days but his doctor is not available for few days. would it be a problem if we don't take off his bandage for a few more days. can we take it off by ourselves ?

It would be best to contact the vet clinic Edgard was treated at to see if they have another on-call vet while your current one is away. They can check to see if the wing is fully healed before messing with the bandage in case it needs to be in place for longer, or in case it needs to be changed out with a fresh one. If the bandage is very dirty or smelly, bringing Edgard in sooner (even if it's to another vet on call) is best to make sure the area gets cleaned and any infection cared for.
