Why does my dog yip when I touch him, but shows no other pain signs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 7 years and 8 months old | 16 lbs

Every so often when I touch oscar he yips. I felt him all over and he doesn't seem to be in any pain. Its really weird I can touch his nose or under his armpits or his neck or his paws or somewhere else random and he only yips sometimes. He is acting normal otherwise. Hes eating, sleeping, running, playing and drinking normal. I am really worried about him because I don't know what's wrong

If only Oscar could talk! It's possible something is hurting him but anxiety (related to something painful that he associates with petting) could also be the cause. Since he can't talk and explain, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. This is the best way to know if he is in pain or if it's behavioral. I hope this helps.
