My cat sneezes seasonally for days while grooming. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9.3 lbs

Around the same time each year, Bits has these sneezing fits. Usually while grooming, Bits will sneeze several times in a row...scratch at her nose, then sneeze a few more times. This will go in for a couple of days in a row. Bits has no other symptoms and usually the sneezing just goes away. Are occasional sneezing fits that last a few days sometimes normal in cats? Thanks :)

Allergens or irritants in the air that are inhaled perhaps during grooming (such as hair, grooming products, sprays, etc that become aerosolized can potentially cause sneezing for a day or so. If the sneezing is not accompanied by any other symptoms such as lethargy, decrease appetite, nasal discharge, vomiting, coughing, etc. then it may be due to the grooming and not too much to worry about.
