Why is my senior dog suddenly having accidents and not alerting?

My 11 year old grand dog has started frequent accidents in the house without alerting us. She is a yorkie but will literally pee or poop right next to you. She used to alert you or just sit by the door to go out. This is becoming a major issue. What do we do? Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

The first thing to do is have her checked by the veterinarian. It's possible there is an infection or other abnormality that is causing the behavior. Sometimes there is a neurological problem and the pet is not aware of what is happening. Dementia can also cause these symptoms. Some conditions have treatment with medications.
