Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is normal for puppies to have a fast respiration rate, even at rest. As long as her gums are nice and pink and she’s not struggling to breathe she should be fine. Kisses to Iana!

It is possible she is dreaming and not showing any other signs, like motion or twitching. Rapid breathing during sleeping in puppies is not unusual. 128 does sound high, but again, she may be dreaming, and as long as she breathes normally when awake and under normal circumstances, I am not too alarmed. You can take a video of it to show to your vet and get their opinions.

If Sam is otherwise normal I would not be overly concerned. You can check his tongue to make sure it's pink and see if his gums are moist. He may be dreaming. If he should become lethargic, weak or the fast breathing continues a veterinary exam is a good idea. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Sam.
