Why is my dog foaming, smacking mouth, dizzy, and head pumping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 22 lbs

3 days ago my dog has had foam coming out of her mouth and she smacks her mouth at the same time, it has happened 4 times so far, each lasting 30 secs to a minute. 2 days ago her eyes sometimes look unfocused, like she’s dizzy or something. I have also noticed she had been walking slowly and sometimes looks like she’s dizzy. The top of her head also pumps up and down sometimes and her ears move a little bit. She eats and drinks regularly.

Sounds like Snow is having partial seizures. I suggest you video tape her episodes and take her to the vet for an exam and show them the video. They will most likely recommend some blood testing and will discuss with you some anti-seizure medications if they think they are needed. It's quite serious when a dog suddenly has seizures, and it could be that Snow got into something toxic, has low blood sugar, has liver disease, or kidney failure among other causes. I would have her seen by a vet right away. The vet can diagnose what is causing her seizures and can treat her for it. If Snow seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near her mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor her at all times during the seizure to ensure that she cannot hurt herself by crashing into furniture, etc - If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately
