My cat killed my hamster. Is she aggressive towards kids or will she get sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My cat just killed my hamster I’m not sure how but she was able to drag the hamster halfway out of the cage and ripped her apart while we were sleeping. My cat has never been aggressive with anyone or anything and I’m now worried I have a 1 year old and a 4year old does this mean she is getting aggressive or And Since it looks like she ripped her up could she get sick if she ate some of the hamster

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your hamster. Hunting and killing rodents and other small animals is completely normal behavior for cats, and has nothing to do with any type of aggression towards humans - so there is no reason to think that she will have any issues with family members based on this incident. It's also very common for cats to eat small animals that they have killed (such as mice, moles, chipmunks, etc.), so I would not expect this to cause any significant problems for your kitty.
