My puppy ate Colgate Nature's Extracts toothpaste. Is it safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 9 days old | 7.5 lbs

My 15 week old jack Russell terrier puppy has chewed on my toothpaste tube. Not sure if he has invested any, he has had water. He is currently sleeping as it is late but he seems normal when we wake him up. It’s been about 25 minutes since he chewed it. Gums are still pink. The toothpaste was Colgate nature’s extracts ultimate fresh lemon and aloe.

Usually toothpaste intoxication is due to xylitol. In your case Colgate nature’s extracts ultimate fresh lemon and aloe contains Sorbitol, which is not toxic for dogs. I would recommend to monitor Archie closely for the next 24 hours and if you notice any vomiting, inappetence lethargy, diarrhoea to take him immediately to your vet for a check up.
