My dog has a cut above her eye from a fight. Is it healing okay?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 9 months old | 30 lbs

My dogs got into a little arguement wed night, and my one has a cut above her eye. Ive been cleaning it twice a day, and applying blue kote for antiseptic. I didnt think the local vet (2 hours away) would sew it up so it could drain. I am just looking for reassurance the wound looks okay. She is eating, drinking, and acting pretty normal.

Stitches would make it heal faster but it looks fine and will likely heal OK. It will just take longer. Be careful what medications you use around the eye. Some medications, if they get in the eye, could cause eye irritation/damage.

    That does look as though it may need a stitch or two. I would also be concerned about any trauma to the eye itself and would have the eye and the wound checked by a veterinarian to be on the safe side.

It should heal on its own. But without really examining him in person myself it’s kind of hard to say with 100% certainty. I would just keep doing what you’re doing. Keep it clean and apply an anabiotic ointment 2-3 times per day. Be sure not to use any hydrogen peroxide as that will delay healing and could damage the eye if it gets on the eyeball.

Dogs got in a small fight. The smaller of the to looks to have a small flesh wound on the head. And what looks like a blood blister in her eye. What should I do?
It looks like there has been some damage to the conjunctiva or outer eyelid, this could become infected so I would head to the vet to get it checked out and obtain any necessary meds. It's always a good idea to have eyes checked because they are so sensitive.

I am sorry to hear about your dog's fighting! Due to the wound being so close to the eye it can be a tricky situation, because you don't want any soap to get into the eye which could cause ulceration/burning of the cornea (surface of the eye). I would also be concerned/worried if the injury was this close to the eye that there could be trauma to the eye itself. It also looks like the wound could be deep and if it extends a bit past where I can see in the photo (I can't tell because of the presence of fur) it could be long enough to warrant a stitch. If your dog is tolerant you can try using a q-tip with a small amount of soap on it to clean the area in order to clean it while avoiding the eye itself. A soap such as Hibiclens (generic = chlorhexidine) from the drug store is ideal but if not, just a mild soap at home. If your dog is wiggly/not cooperative and you may end up getting soap in his eye I would avoid using soap near it and just rinse with warm water. You can apply a small

My dogs fought over a toy and one ended up with this bite. Will he need stitches? My husband and I just had a baby, and we are right on money until the 5th when he gets paid.
It would heal better and faster with stitches. If you cannot afford to have that done then just keep it clean with this wound spray linked below. DO NOT use hydrogen peroxide on it - that will actually delay healing. If after a week it is not looking better or if it gets red, swollen, has pus coming from it then you will need to get him to the vet. my dog has a tear under her eye and there are no available vets here. Is there something we can do from home to keep it from getting worse?
That wound truly needs to be sutured closed by a veterinarian. If that truly isn't possible, prevent her from scratching it, keep clean and dry. Clean just with warm water on a cloth. Without appropriate medical care there is risk of infection or that the eyelid may scar and not heal correctly.

I was wondering if you were able to tell me if my dog needs stitches or if it can heal on it’s own or how I should go about it. I cleaned it really good and it’s wrapped up right now just not sure how I should deal with it ?
That looks like it could use some sutures to close it. It doesn't appear too deep, mainly in the skin, but leaving a wound open, even with frequent bandage changes, increases the risk of infection. I recommend getting your vet to have a look and do some wound care.

That appears deep enough and long enough it will require stitches to heal quicker and antibiotics so it will not get infected since the source is unknown. It is best to have it evaluated this evening if possible, but if not, then keep Neosporin on it and discourage her from scratching it and visit a vet in the morning.

Hi, I would recommend to have him checked over so that the eye can be properly assessed any corneal injuries. It looks like he might have a cut on the corner of that eye, and with bite wounds you always have infection creeping into the skin so thorough cleaning of the skin/flushing of the eye is recommended.

Hi my two dogs got into a fight today for the first time in 5 years and I noticed my German Shepherd has a gash on her cheek under her eye I'm wondering what would care I can do from home?
You can gently clean the cut under Lulu's eye with warm water and an antiseptic soap. The concern I would have with her having a cut under her eye would be that he eye may have been accidentally scratched by the teeth of your other dog. I would recommend having Lulu seen by a vet in the morning to have her eye examined. If it was scratched, it will need to be treated to prevent infection and potential vision loss from occurring.
