Chihuahua had a seizure from chocolate. Will she have more seizures?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 5 lbs

I woke up to my 10 year old chihuahua flopping around (having a seizure). I think she may have eaten a chocolate chip cookie or two judging from her throw up. I took her to the vet where they kept her for the day on iv and she hasn’t had any seizures since but I am so nervous and scared to go to sleep thinking I could wake up to that again. She is my baby and I just want to know if I should be expecting another seizure or if maybe it was a one time thing since it was probably chocolate?

Seizures are very scary! if this is related to the chocolate, Coco is not expected to have any further seizures as long as she doesn't eat any chocolate. If the seizure was related to epilepsy or some other cause, then it could happen again. I recommend to ask your veterinarian about their clinical impression. I hope this helps.
