Why is my dog weak after vet treatment for vomiting and diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 24 days old | 38 lbs

My dog had diarrhea and was vomiting. I took him to the vet and he got a shot for nausea and also was prescribed metronidazole 500 mg and endsorb. He’s stopped getting sick but now he seems weak. He ate rice and chicken this morning and this afternoon as per my vets directions. What could be wrong with my dog?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Yogi. I'm sorry he's sick, and you did the right thing by taking him into the vet. It could be he has a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could have pancreatitis. Hopefully the medication and bland diet will help him, but if it doesn't, take him back into the vet. Best of luck.
