My dog has a bleeding, infected lump on its back. What to do?

Hi, tonight we noticed a lump on my dogs back. It is quite big, and it is bleeding and smells bad as if infected. Can you offer any advice on what it may be? Thank you

If you are noticing an odor, it's might be infected. This bump could be an infected cyst, a foreign body trapped under the skin or a ruptured tumor. I recommend to protect the area from any licking (Nala may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times) and have her examined by the veterinarian within the next 24 hours. I hope this helps.

    It is possible that she has a skin infection, called pyoderma. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. She may need antibiotics or possibly a medicated shampoo. If it is not an infection they may recommend biopsy of the bumps. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

It could be an infection, cyst, or possibly a hystiocytoma. The best thing would be to have a vet take a look at the lesion. Your vet can do a needle aspirate to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or it may need to be removed. Hope he feels better soon!

I just noticed on my dog a bloody lump on her back right leg. There is a similar bump on her left leg, but not bleeding. It was not there yesterday and doesn't really seem to be bothering her.
Those lumps need to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors and infection that could look like this. take Nalah to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the Bumps and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

My dog has a bump on her back. She has a lymphoma on her booty 6 months ago but it looked nothing this. Please help.
This could be an infected cyst, a deep pustule which is essentially a zit or some other type of skin tumor. I recommend keeping it clean and dry, monitoring it for any change in size, redness, discharge or pain. You could try applying a medicated pet shampoo daily and monitoring it afterwards. However if it becomes enlarged, red, painful or more appear or it does not go away after a couple days then Bellybutton needs to be examined by her veterinarian.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. This could have also being a cyst or an abscess based on your description. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. This looks like it could be a cyst or a skin tumor like a hemangioma. I find that once a skin growth ruptures it tends to happen again, so I would definitely recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian. They will probably recommend surgically removing this growth.

This mass appears to be a tumor that should be removed if it keeps causing infections and bleeding. As it grows it will press against the skin and cause the skin to get damaged. At the same time bacteria can enter and cause an infection . I realize that your dog is already 12 years old, and therefore considered a geriatric dog with a higher anesthetic risk, however, nowadays we tailor every anesthesia to the needs and condition of the patient and therefore anesthesia is much much safer. I suggest you discuss the removal of this mass with your veterinarian. If he is not willing to do general anesthesia, he may be able to do the surgery with heavy sedation and a local anesthesia. I am afraid, unless you have the mass removed, it will not stop bleeding or getting infected as it will just keep on growing.,

It could be an abscess, it could also be a tumor, you must take him to the vet in order to get that treated, the fur in that area must be clipped off completely, the wound needs to be cleaned and analysed. if it is an abscess a course of antibiotics will solve the problem.

Hi ! My dog is old and she has suffered with large tumours in the past that have been removed and now she only has a few small ones left that don’t grow any bigger! However when she gets groomed it seems to irritate the lumps and she has been biting
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Paris. I would clean the irritated bump with warm water. Then place an E-collar on her to prevent any further licking. If this does not help it to heal, then she will need to see her veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

My dog Trey has a mole looking thing on his stomach and he keeps biting it. It bleeds when he bites it. It looks painful for him but I don't know what to do to help him. Please help! do you know what it might be and how I could help him?
Without further testing, there is no way to tell if this growth is due to infection, trauma or allergy, or if it is a tumour. Tumours can be of a malignant (cancerous) type that can spread elsewhere and/ or invade the healthy tissue around them, or a more benign (noncancerous) type that is unlikely to spread. I recommend making an appointment to see your vet to have the growth tested. In many cases this can be done using a fine needle aspirate, where cells are removed from the growth using a needle and examined under a microscope to determine what it is and to guide treatment. In some cases further testing may be needed to determine the necessary course of treatment, but it is important to get new growths tested in a timely manner, as some can be cancerous and quite aggressive in their growth, and growths due to infection, allergy or trauma can lead to complications or be indicators of underlying health problems.
