Why does my cat have Haws syndrome if vet tests are all normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 years and 5 months old | 9 lbs

My cat seems to have haws syndrome. I have taken her to the vet where they checked her over and took blood tests, all results were fine. So what's wrong with her?

Haws syndrome is a neurologic condition that we occasionally see in cats, usually secondary to some mild GI symptoms (diarrhea) which may be due to intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, dietary sensitivity. If you have seen any diarrhea vomiting or inappetence, be sure to tell your vet about it; treating the underlying issues will help it resolve. Having said that, often these cases improve over a period of weeks to months with little to no intervention. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
