Why is my Malamute so bony and underweight with skin problems?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 5 months old

I have a 5 years old female Alaskan Malamute. She has bad immune to skin disease so until now she still has fungus/yeast all over her body causing dark pigmentation, and the vet refused to vaccinate her. But, the most concerning problem is that she’s very bony and underweight. She has normal-massive appetite (even the normal amount of dog food we gave her isn’t enough (2cups) & tend to steal my other dog’s food). feces and menstruation are normal and doesn’t show any characteristics of sick dog.

Hormones may be causing all her hair loss and the overgrowth of yeast on her skin. It is best to have her spayed. I agree with the vet about not vaccinating her until she is healthier. I would start with spaying. While the vet is in the abdomen to remove the ovaries/uterus they can also explore to see if all the other organs look normal.
