Why is my senior cat's back skin dry, flaky, sensitive, and spasming?

Pet's info: Cat | Chantilly-Tiffany | Female | spayed | 19 years and 1 month old | 8 lbs

My cat is 17 years old. She recently started having problems on her back her skin feels like its dryed out she has flakey skin and she is super sensitive to it. this isnt normal for her we cant really touch her she freaks out if you touch one of her spots. she sometimes spasms

It sounds like Betty's skin is either itchy or painful. Thyroid disease can cause skin changes (although usually they are not itchy). Allergies can develop at any time during a cat's life and could cause itchiness and dry skin. Fleas might be another possibility. I'd recommend having Betty examined by your vet.
