My senior dog has an open growth. Is it infected or a hygroma?

Please help. This is Ace and he's probably about 12 years old now. He's a little overweight and most of his time is spent on the couch, still eats great and gets excited. He's a pretty happy pup, this growth may or may not change that. He's had it for several years, and it hasn't botherd him in its slow growing. Yest, I noticed it open, is this hurting him, can I drain at home? And what can I do to ensure comfortability or furthee complication, with an appointment already set. Oh, hy groma?

Hello. This pedunculated mass is just a very large skin tag, possibly related to a hygroma. It is not dangerous, but you should consider having it removed, especially since it has opened. There really is nothing to be drained as these are usually quite dense with tissue, so the biggest concern would be a possible infection. I would pick up a skin antiseptic called Hibiclens ( available at all pharmacies ) & gently clean the open part twice a day. Ace should do just fine & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
