My 9-month puppy won't eat dry food, but seems fine. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shihpoo | Female | spayed | 9 months and 23 days old | 10 lbs

my puppy, 9 months old, has had a reduced appetite in the last few days. Until this week, she always scarfed down her food as soon as I fed it to her. Now, she's been leaving food in her bowl all day. She'll eat her wet food, but eats only small amounts of the dry food. Poop and energy levels seem normal. Should I be concerned?

If it's been ongoing a week, I would think about scheduling a vet visit as there may be some minor GI upset or an underlying illness causing the change. If you see obvious signs of illness including lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, pain, refusing all food, etc, then seeking care right away is best.
