My cat sneezes and coughs after smelling fish. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 6.52 lbs

Whenever my cat senses an awkward smell, it starts to sneeze and cough for around 15 seconds. I have not seen this kind of reaction before and i can say it only happened after i introduced him a plate of fish and it acted the way i described above. That's when i first saw him acting like that. Should i be worried about this? Apart from this, my cat seems normal; it eats, drinks and goes around. Thanks.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Toe. As long as he is normal otherwise and not sneezing at other times, then this probably not anything to worry about for him. I will see pets that behave this way. If the sneezing starts happening outside of the smells, then he should see his veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
