My dog keeps throwing up blood monthly. What's the real issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 9 lbs

My dog vomits blood, I take her to the vet, they give her medicine for gastroenteritis because she shows no other signs of being sick, and a about a month later it’s the same thing. This has been happening since summer and I’ve taken her to different vets and they say the same thing. She’s on a strict gastrointestinal fat free diet and still she vomits blood after a month. I need new suggestions what could be causing this. I’m worried, and idk what to do anymore.

I recommend to have her checked for stomach worms. If everything looks normal there, I recommend to look into an abdominal ultrasound or an endoscope (which would be best). This is the best way to look for any masses or evidence of cancer. You may also ask your veterinarian about starting an anti-acid protocol which could help. I hope they figure it out quickly!
