Why is my dog hunched over, panting heavily, and hacking?

Not eating or drinking can be signs of a systemic illness that is causing him to feel ill. Examples are liver disease, kidney disease, hormonal imbalances, and even cancer. Walking hunched is an indication of back pain and/or abdominal pain. He may be panting despite the normal room temperature because of this pain or discomfort. For all of these reasons, I would recommend having Marley evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. They will likely recommend blood work, a urinalysis and abdominal x-rays to look for evidence of underlying disease that could make him unwilling to eat or drink. These tests may also give some insight into why he is walking hunched over and sensitive to you touching him. They will also allow your veterinarian to develop the most appropriate treatment plan to get him feeling better as quickly as possible. I hope this is helpful,

I strongly recommend taking brownie into the veterinarian this morning. If she is panting and standing where she can't get comfortable that's often a sign of severe discomfort or pain. Boxers can potentially be prone to gastric bloat or GDV which is a life-threatening emergency. Some other signs can be abdominal distention, or having a very hard or tense abdomen. But in some dogs you cannot always see an enlarged abdomen. Other possibilities maybe neck or back pain or injury preventing her from sitting or lying down. Which would still benefit from a veterinary visit to assess and get her appropriate medication. Please do not give over-the-counter pain medicine as many are toxic to dogs and can interfere with appropriate diagnosis and treatment when you do get her to the vet. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. With these symptoms I am very worried about what could be going on with Miss Piggy. If she was exhibiting respiratory problems last night and then fell over, she could have passed out due to lack of oxygen / blood to the brain. I would be worried about primary heart disease / failure and respiratory disease that has lead to these symptoms. Seeing that Miss Piggy is older in the photos, heart disease and respiratory disease are definitely my top suspicions. I would strongly recommend that you get her seen by an emergency veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I would have her blood tested and have x-rays taken of her chest to see what is going on. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do in the meantime for her if this is her heart or respiratory disease. Poor Molly. I'd be concerned that she could be suffering from a severe illness, and it's serious she is having shallow breathing. She should see a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

This can also be caused by lung disease, a mass, or a foreign body in the throat - heart failure typically presents as rapid breathing and coughing, and usually develops over time. I see that Sammy is an older boy. I would be concerned that these signs could be due to something serious like heart disease. This can be common in older dogs. It could be a respiratory infection. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning to get checked out. Best of luck.
