My cat has bloody stool after overeating. Should I be worried?

If the blood is coating the outside of the stool and the stool seems hard, she may have irritated her anus passing a hard/firm stool. If she's otherwise acting normal, you may monitor her for 24 hours but if the bleeding continues beyond that, or if she starts showing any other symptoms, I'd bring her in to the vet. As long as she's eating and drinking well this is not an emergency, but I'd have her seen to determine where the bleeding is coming from. Hope this helps!

Since cats can have relatively dry, firm stools, it is easy to irritate the colon & see a smear of blood on occasion. This blood indicates that there is some inflammation and bleeding in the rectum. Generally, this is not as concerning as bleeding in the small intestine and I would not consider this an emergency. It is actually not too uncommon to see bleeding with some cases of diarrhea and if Louie is otherwise OK, then you're OK to wait till your vet appointment. I would be more suspicious of parasitism or an infection causing this diarrhea, but a food intolerance is possible. Either way, it's good to feed a bland or sensitive stomach diet at this time. It could just be caused by something she ate. You should monitor her and if it continues then have her examined by a vet. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe medications to treat.
