How to help my paralyzed cat who keeps trying to go outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

Hello, so my cat who is 5 years old got into an accident a few months ago and is now paraplegic but he’s doing fine now. He used to go outside the roam around then but now I don’t wanna send him out cause he drags his legs around and they get wounded and his bum too. But he always tries to sneak out and he keeps meowing at us and sitting by the door and sometimes not even eating just asking to go outside. How do I deal with this issue? Also he’s not neutered so maybe that’s a thing. Thank you!

Getting him neutered may decrease his desire to go outside. There are companies that will make small carts or "wheelchairs" for paralyzed pets. It would keep his back end off the ground and prevent injury. It would also make it easier for him to get around the house. Your veterinarian may know of a company or distributor. You can also search online.
