Why is my cat peeing outside the litter box after wood pellet switch?

I switched my cat's litter box from clay to wood pellets. I transitioned very slowly and it worked because he was using it just fine with the new litter. Lately, he started using the bathroom on the floor. I'm guessing he realized he just doesn't like the new litter anymore? Well idk what to do because this is the second time he peed outside the litter box but it doesn't make sense to me because he was using it for 2 weeks before just fine. Should I start cleaning it everyday? Any options? HELP! Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs
