My dog woke up choking, drooling, and peeing. Could it be a seizure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 50 lbs

My dog was laying down asleep for an hour or so and randomly woke up either gasping for air or choking. She did this for about 30 seconds. When she started this I ran to her and lightly patted her chest and rubbed her back until she stopped. When she stopped I noticed a large wet spot under her head (drool I assume) and a large wet spot under her backside (pee). I'm not sure what this could have been.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bella. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian especially if the episodes continue. She may have a respiratory tract infection or it could be something more serious such as a seizure. The veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to treat her if necessary. I hope this information helps!
