My dog ate human anti-vomit pills. What symptoms should I watch for?

This a medication that is used in dogs already but sadly the main side effects can be vomiting. The other side effects are dose dependent so depending on how many he got into will depend on how severe this is. It is best to get him to a vet for an exam so they can check his heart rate and start medicine to help with the vomiting

Signs of overdose include lethargy and hyper salivation, while seizures can occur in dogs who have massive overdoses (this would not be considered a massive overdose). Because your dog has only taken a little over the highest recommended dose, he should be ok but you can take him into a vet to have vomiting induced to be safe. I never recommend doing it at home due to the risk of aspiration and the fact that hydrogen peroxide (which people commonly use at home to induce vomiting) can and does cause gastritis often worse than the initial problem. You can monitor him, and you do see any side effect, you can take him into the vet.

Hello, the calcium content in that chew should be well tolerated by Thunder. The magnesium content may cause GI signs such as constipation, loose stools, or even diarrhea. If you are near a veterinarian, you may have them induce vomiting and measure his calcium and magnesium levels with bloodwork. Alternatively, you can monitor at home for any evidence of increased drinking, increased urinations, loose stools, or diarrhea and contact your veterinarian immediately if you note any. Senokot tablets (stool softeners) are safe to use in dogs and the dosage is 25-50mg per pet for small breed dogs. Your pet may experiene some soft stool but she likely will be just fine. The vomiting is likely some mild stomach upset, which can occur with just about any medication or from her ingesting something else she shouldn't have. I would recommend giving her a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next few feedings to settle her stomach and fast her (no food, only water) for at least 12 hrs following her last vomiting episode as you have indicated you have already started to do. Otherwise, if she continues to vomit, there may be something else going on concurrently, and I would suggest taking her in to your vet for an overall health check. Assuming duke had 6 tablets of 60-120lbs he had a little under 10,000 mg, for his weight toxic dose starts at 12,000 mg, so he should be safe, but if you start seeing worse symptoms or if he isn't better by tomorrow morning- take him to the vet in order to get it checked.

You don't mention how many tablets he ate, or how much he weighs. Like all toxicities, Imodium toxicity is dose-dependent, meaning the severity of signs is related to how much was ingested. Dosages of 1.25 – 5 mg/kg can cause vomiting, depression, and salivation. The best way to help him is to get him in to see a vet who can give drugs to control nausea and administer activated charcoal to absorb the rest of the drug in the GI tract. Fluids will likely help him feel better as well.
