My cat won't eat, pees often, and cries. Is it a medical emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 years old

My cat has not eaten for days now, she just refuses wet and dry food. She sniffs it then meows. She also is meowing whenever she urinates and is urinating quite a bit. She would rather sit on the cold tiles than on her soft cushions. Could it be her bladder or her kidneys?

It's actually a medical emergency that Zelda hasn't eaten for days. When a cat doesn't eat going on 72 hours, they develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. She has to see a vet now. She could have a problem with her kidneys, as kidney failure is common in older cats. Please take her into a vet immediately.
