My cat has a tumor. How long should imiquimod treatment continue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old

My 15 years-old male cat underwent nosectomy for SCC in 2017 and had a local relax se in 2019. He was now treated with local 5% imiquimod cream, five days a week with few side effects and apparent regression of the lesion. Is this treatment schedule correct and how long has the treatment to be continued?

So sorry to hear that Fiocco has this problem. Enough studies have not been done on the use of Imiquimod in cats to know how long they should stay on it. My guess would be until a few weeks after the tumor regresses. Then if the tumor starts growing again you will have to start again. Here is a link that may answer more of your questions.
