My puppy was exposed to parvo. What symptoms, booster, and cleaning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 1 day old | 25 lbs

Our puppy has had his first parvo booster but one of the puppies in his litter just passed last night from parvo. They haven't been around each other in a week and a half so I was just curious of things to watch for and when we can have his next boosters. Also things that we can do as far as cleaning around our house to help prevent him from getting parvo since the puppy that passed has been at our house 2 weeks ago.

The typical incubation period of parvo is 3-5 days, but it can be up to 14 days. Diesel isn't out of the woods yet, but he may be ok if the puppy was at your house two weeks ago. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, get him into a vet immediately. He won't be able to get his second booster until 4 weeks after the first shot. Throw away any toys the puppy played with, and clean with a bleach based cleaner.

I certainly understand how worried you must be. Hopefully Phantom will be protected from Parvovirus if he had an adequate response to his vaccinations. The first signs of Parvo include lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea. If Phantom develops any of those signs, consult your veterinarian right away. In the meantime, your goal is to keep his immune sytem as healthy as possible by preventing any extra stress. So, spend the next week with good puppy cuddle times and play times. It will be good for your stress level too. Good luck! I hope Phantom will be fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
