Should I worry if my cockatiel's droppings are suddenly watery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 10 months old

I have a cockatiel. Today I noticed his droppings are very watery. The liquid is clear, the urates are white but also watery, and the same goes for the “solids”. Normal in color, but not as solid as they should be. He seems to be acting fine; eating and drinking normally, and I only noticed one movement that was like this. But I just want to know if there is anything to be concerned about.

Thanks for reaching out about Artie and including photos. A solitary watery dropping is not to be concerning but if continues a veterinary visit should be scheduled. Changes in appetite, i.e. offering lots of fruit, could temporarily change the stool. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Mojo and including a photo. The droppings appear polyuric (increased urine). The urates are loose and urine voluminous, but this is just one dropping. If they all appear like this, then increased there is probably a concern. Kidney and liver disease, reproductive activity, stress, increased water consumption, diabetes and other causes are possible. A veterinary examination is still recommended. Good luck.
