My cat has black poop and dried blood on her anus. What could it be?

Hello, my cat had some almost black looking poop in her litterbox today and later on I noticed some dried blood on her anus. She can’t be dehydrated because she drink plenty of water very often. What could this be?

It could be Bubbles has a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body causing this blood in her poop. This could also be due to intestinal worms. You need to have her seen by a vet today for this.

Hi, my cat is 18 but in very good health. She eats, drinks and uses the bathroom normally. The other day she has some streaks of red blood in her stool and her backside looked a little bloody so I wiped it with a wet wipe and it was fine after that.
She may just have some inflammation in her stomach/interstines. Hairballs usually cause vomiting but anything that causes gastrointestinal inflammation can cause blood in the stool. If she seems fine otherwise than you could monitor her for a day and see if it resolves. If not, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run some lab-work to help diagnose and then prescribe medications to help treat. You could also add a probiotic, like Fortiflora or Proviable, to her diet and see if that helps.

It is possible that this particular stool was difficult to pass and you helping to remove it may have caused a small amount of bleeding from the rectal tissue. Cats can become constipated, and if she has been passing less stool than usual, straining to defecate and had a decreased appetite I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. There are some other things that can cause blood in the stool as well including intestinal parasites, colitis or even inflammatory bowel disease. If the blood is persistent you should make an appointment to see your veterinarian as well.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Toto. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian today. Bright red blood typically comes from the colon. She could have inflammation that has resulted in blood and possibly mucus on the stool. Her stool will need to be tested to rule out an intestinal infection. If she has very hard or dry stool such as seen with constipation, this can also cause bleeding. Her veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to help this from happening again. My kitten passed stool and suddenly there her bum was red and it spewed a lil blood . Im a little freaked out what can be the cause?
It looks like Coco may have a small amount of rectal tissue prolapsed. This can occur if they have parasites, chronic diarrhea, foreign body or constipation. I recommend having her checked for intestinal parasites and possibly adding water to her food to help her pass stool more easily. If she is vomiting or showing any other signs of illness she should see a pet ASAP.

Blood in the feces can be caused by many different things including diarrhea (can be caused by eating something silly, worms, toxins), can also be caused by rat bait toxin, clotting factor problems, or an abscess. If there is blood dripping from the bum, then I would recommend having Krookie seen by a vet as soon as possible, as some of these conditions can be fatal if not treated right away. Likely it will be something that can be fixed with some medications, however best to get it checked right away. Best of luck with Krookie.

Blood in the stool, red or black, is always concerning and I would recommend to contact a vet immediately. Bright red blood without stool abnormalities either diarrhea or hard, dry stools generally indicates the problem is closer to the rectum and anus. Differentials from benign food changes, infections, inflammatory disease and even cancer need to be ruled out.

It is difficult to say without being able to examine your kitty. This may be blood from an anal gland infection, but could also be from an injury or bloody diarrhea. You should take her to a veterinary doctor as she will need antibiotics to prevent infection.

There are a number of concerns here but the development of blacker stools can be indicative of internal bleeding and requires urgent veterinary assessment and a check up of kidney function and dental health (swallowed blood can be detected in stools). It sounds like she has also suffered from colitis and/or pancreatitis (soft, slimey, malodorous) in the past and diet change to a high fiber, low fat complete food may help depending on the findings of her physical exam and blood/urine tests

If the blood is coating the outside of the stool and the stool seems hard, she may have irritated her anus passing a hard/firm stool. If she's otherwise acting normal, you may monitor her for 24 hours but if the bleeding continues beyond that, or if she starts showing any other symptoms, I'd bring her in to the vet. As long as she's eating and drinking well this is not an emergency, but I'd have her seen to determine where the bleeding is coming from. Hope this helps!

Blood in the stool is an indication to have her evaluated by a veterinarian.
