My dog has hard skin growths with blood that regrow. What are they?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, my dog has these hard projections that grow out from her skin. They appear to have a blood supply and grow back when removed. I’ve attached a picture. Any idea what it could be? She is a 2 yo Australian Shepard. We treat her with avantix flea/tick and she is dewormed regularly. The growths don’t seem to bother her

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! They look like keratin growths. The skin is made of keratin which is a protein and sometimes that protein is hard, like a nail. I recommend taking your pup to the vet to confirm but if that is what they are they are not serious. Kisses to your pup!
