My dog swallowed a 6-inch pizzle stick. Will it hurt her stomach?

Good Evening. My healthy 43pound 7month female lab mix, after chewing it a few minutes, has just swallowed a single 6" piece of a 12" pizzle bull stick. Should I be concerned about it injuring her digestive system?

This is a good portion of the stick, and it could cause a problem. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite. If you see any of those signs, take Autumn into a vet immediately. Hopefully, however, her stomach acid will dissolve it.

HI and thanks for your request. I think these signs are concerning given the ingestion of the stick and they should be checked by your local veterinarian as soon as possible. Please take Ellie to your nearest emergency clinic.

An immediate check up would be required to determine by an x ray/abdominal ultrasound if the stick could be causing an obstruction/perforation of the gastrointestinal system or not. Your vet can possibly make him sick as well.
