Why is my cat's poop bloody? Could grain-free food be the problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ocicat | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old

Hi doctor, my cat is 1.5 years old and 5.2 kilos in weight. He keeps having some blood in his stool every now and then. The vet had given him canigest and have asked us to move out of grain free food. Is there anything we should be concerned about? Seems like there isn't enough roughage

Diet certainly can be a cause of blood in the poop, and grain free food is not good for pets. It can also be a sign of intestinal worms, a stomach illness, or eating something rotten. Try your vet's suggestion first and see if that helps the problem. If it doesn't, take Sergio back into the vet.
