My 6-month GSD puppy has severe separation anxiety and endless energy.

To help keep him occupied when you aren't able to actively play with him, I recommend getting him a Kong toy. My GSD loved his. Also, to save you hands, you need to work with him on learning what is and is not acceptable when mouthing and chewing. When you play with your puppy, let him mouth on your hands. Continue play until he bites especially hard. When he does, immediately give a high-pitched yelp, as if you’re hurt, and let your hand go limp. This should startle your puppy and cause him to stop mouthing you. (If yelping seems to have no effect, you can say “Too bad!” or “You blew it!” in a stern voice instead.) High energy is normal for puppies, but she needs to get enough play time in so that she doesn't become bored and destructive. High energy intelligent dogs are at risk of turning their energy and smarts into chewing, digging, barking, separation anxiety, etc. If you can have a friend come by to play with her in the middle of the day, or a dog walking service or a doggie-daycare arrangement, she will be much happier in the long run. Given that she destroys the apartment as soon as you leave if she isn't in the crate, then I would keep her in the crate when you are gone. I would try to make the crate a fun place for her to be in. She can have toys in the crate, and puzzle toys with treats in it that she has to figure out how to get the treats out. You can also fill a Kong toy with peanut butter and freeze it in the freezer overnight, then give it to her in the crate. That will keep her occupied for a while.
