Diabetic cat pulling hair, peeing more. Is her diabetes uncontrolled?

Hello. If she is still drinking and peeing and having glucose in her pee then the diabetes isn't under control. Chat with your vet about checking for infections (urinalysis is recommended) as well as Cushing's disease. If these are present the diabetes won't become controlled. Hair loss is associated woth Cushings as well. Good luck with her!

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites or it could be stress related. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). If allergy is not identified this behaviour could be purely stress related. Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). It could be she has a medical condition like hyperthyroidism causing the hair loss as well as the increase in drinking and weight loss, or she could be suffering from something like a skin infection causing the hair loss, and a medical condition like diabetes causing the weight loss and increased thirst. Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I think it may be that Morgan has diabetes. Drinking an excess of water in a cat is almost always diabetes especially with the concurrent hair/skin signs you are seeing. Usually that is due to a failure to groom themselves as they normally would. Of course, some other common differentials would be kidney disease and thryoid disease. I suggest you schedule a vet visit and blood work for Elskan. Since she is an older kitty she may be suffering from a kidney problem, hyperthyroidism or diabetes. All of these can be ruled out with a blood test. A shaggy coat and accidents also are signs that Elskan is not feeling well.

Diabetes in cats typically presents with a dry hair coat, weight loss, an increase in drinking and an increase in urination. More advanced untreated diabetics can also start vomiting and stop eating.
