My dog's epulis keeps returning after surgery. How to prevent it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Female | spayed | 9 years and 1 month old | 74 lbs

my dog laila just had her second surgery for another epulis today, she had one in early Dec and already it's back. my vet got all the first time but it came back so quickly, unfortunately we live in the Caribbean and no option for radiation or chemo, it isn't cancerous. please advise me what I can do to maybe prevent it from coming back so quickly, it's so expensive to keep removing it and I don't want to have to put her down I love my dog. I'm going to attach the pics.

Hello. Was a biopsy done to confirm that this is an epulis? If yes, then unfortunately, there is nothing short of a more aggressive surgery being done to prevent a reoccurrence. Some of these growths have very deep "fingers" that literally grow down into the roots of the teeth. Removing the affected tooth may help, but unfortunately there are no simple remedies.
