Will my dog's healed hip fracture cause issues during delivery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My dog fractured her leg close to the hip bone at around 2 months old. She is 2 years now. My question is if she gets pregnant will delivering the puppies cause it to hurt or fracture again it being so close to the hip? I couldn't afford surgery so it healed on its own. Besides a little knot on her hip where it fractured she still runs like there's no tomorrow. She is a shephound.

Without seeing the xrays it is impossible to say for sure. Any fracture of the pelvis can result in a narrowing of the birth canal and difficulty during delivery but a fracture of the thigh bone alone should not generally have any adverse effect. Check with your vet if any additional risks are expected
