Why is my leopard gecko's eye cloudy, stuck shut, and bubbly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Gecko | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 10 months old

My leopard gecko has been keeping his left eye shut for about a month now and it seems to be stuck shut. I have been using saline drops to try and help it heal but it doesn't seem to be working. He opened his eye today and it appears very cloudy and has 2 small bubbles around the middle of the eye.

Thanks for reaching out about Duck. A cloudy eye could be an infection, trauma, glaucoma and other. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Vitamin A deficiencies in the diet need to be corrected through gut loading of insects. Antibiotics ophthalmic drops and anti-inflammatories could also be beneficial. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Leo. A retained shed can result in a cloudy eye but also a few disease situations such as squamous metaplasia due to vitamin A deficiency and secondary infections. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Ophthalmic antibiotics or anti-inflammatories could improved the condition. Good luck.
