Dachshund itching, paw chewing, and stomach pain on allergy kibble?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 8 lbs

Hi my mini dachshund has been itching and chewing on her front paws for weeks now. The vet thought it could be food allergies but it hasnt stopped since she was put on the kibble. She also seems to smack her lips alot...and when we go on walks she drools...dont know if that is related. She also seems to do a little painful groan when I touch her stomach region. Any advice would be appreciated

Food trials often take 6-8 weeks before results are seen, so if it hasn't been that long you may need to wait a little while longer to see if it helps. If Lady is groaning in pain or drooling/vomiting/nauseated, I would be worried she is having some GI upset, and a recheck with your vet is a good idea.
