My dog has dry, flaky spots on his inner thighs. Does he need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

My dog(just turned 9 years old) has these 2 spots on his inner thighs and he’s eating, drinking, playing and going to the bathroom normal and showing no signs of discomfort. These spots have been here for about a week. They seem to have a dryness to them. Should I be conserved, take him in to get it checked out? I don’t know what to do. We recently took him in and had his annual blood work done and it came back perfect.

I recommend to have Turbo examined. A sudden discoloration to the skin can indicate an infection, allergies or hypothyroidism. Your veterinarian may check the skin for pathogens. They may try topical treatment but if it looks severe enough, they may recommend oral medications. You must also make sure Turbo does not lick ta the area as this could make it worse. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. These practice will encourage good skin health in general. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
