Hello. How is Blacky acting? Is she relaxed & eating & drinking well? Has there been any vaginal discharge, other than the occasional drip of mucous? Average pregnancies are 63 days, but not all dogs will adhere to the same schedule. If you are concerned, it would be best to have Blacky examined to see if she is indeed pregnant ( could this have been a false pregnancy? ), or do an ultrasound examination to make sure the fetuses are all normal & not in distress. If she seems to be feeling well, & there is no unusual discharges or behaviors, I might give her another day or so to see if she goes into labor on her own. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Unfortunately breeding dates alone cannot reliably predict when a dog will go into labor because sperm can last in the reproductive tract for some time before ovulation. So if she ovulated after April 23rd she still could have another week to go, or she may be 'past due' now with pups in fetal distress if she ovulated right on April 21. I would recommend checking in with your vet - they may be able to help age puppies (and count them!) with an x-ray and can make sure the pups do not seem distressed if they have access to ultrasound. It can also be helpful to monitor a rectal temperature 2-3 times a day to establish a baseline - typically there will be a drop of at least 1 degree before labor begins.

Do you mean 53 days pregnant? Dogs are pregnant for 63 days /- a few. If you are seeing milk from mammary glands, then she is very close to labor. I would monitor her, give her a comfortable, warm, quiet place to be able to go to. Once she begins labor, they usually can do it all on their own. The problem to watch for is if she is actively pushing for 20-30 min without any progress. If that occurs, get her to the ER Right away.
