Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Female | spayed | 7 years and 1 month old | 15 lbs
My 7 yr old Havanese has had a cherry for about 5 years and sometimes she rubs and scratches it and it can get inflamed. A canine ophthalmologist once prescribed Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Opthalmic Suspension, USP and I put one drop in her eye three 3 times a day and her eye was better after a couple of days. Is there an OTC eye drop or ointment that would help her if she rubs her eye and it gets irritated? Would Terramycin Ophthalmic Ointment help and is it safe?

Hello. I would not recommend using an antibiotic ointment in the eye, but a good ophthalmic lubricant would be better. Have you considered the surgery to repair the cherry eye? It is not a long or difficult procedure & will relieve Lucy of all future eye irritation & discomfort. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
