Dog has a broken tooth. Is it safe to wait for extraction surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jindo | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 42 lbs

Hi, I took my dog to the vet today for a check up and we realized one of his teeth is totally split down the middle, which explains why he was acting off for 2 weeks (we believe it was from a hospital visit when he panicked and bit at the cage while he was there). The Dr couldn't really examine him because he was so stressed out so she set an appointment for tooth removal next week. I'm worried about him getting an infection since it'll be 3 weeks since he broke it. Should I try for sooner?

I think he will be fine to wait for the procedure next week. I would not be worried about an infection. If the vet notices one they will put him on some antibiotics at the time of the tooth extraction. No worries!
