My cat's drained abscess is leaking. Is a gaping wound normal? Will it heal?

hey, my cat has an abscess wound on his shoulder and the vet drained it by pressing on a pocket of pus that is near his armpit area, it was cleaned and everything, but when i got home the same pocket ruptured and is now leaking again. is that normal? will he have a deformity? since he has a gaping wound as a result of the abscess draining? will it ever heal and go back to normal? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 years old | 7.72 lbs

Yes, that is normal and you actually want the abscess to drain. The gaping wound will fill in eventually and go back to normal. He should not have a deformity but I cannot say for sure without actually seeing the wound for myself. If you would like to post again with some photos we may be able to give you better advice.
