My dog's gums bleed when he chews. What should I do to prevent it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 23 lbs

I noticed recently my dogs mouth looks to be mostly his gums are bleeding with everything that he chews, whether it be toys, chew toys and sometimes he gets his hands on some water bottles. I was wondering how I could stop this or if there is something I can do to prevent it. He loves his toys but I’m not sure

This could be due to gingivitis or other periodontal conditions. Have Diesel physically examined by your veterinarian. A complete dental cleaning may be indicated. If he will allow, daily brushing would slow the progression of dental disease. Use a pet approved toothpaste and toothbrush.
