My dog's eye looks dark and dirty. Is this normal or a vet issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 65 lbs

Does this eye look like it has some issues? First two photos are the right eye which looks dark and dirty. The second eye is the left eye which looks perfectly normal. Is this something I should take to a vet immediately? Are there eye drops I can try before to clear it up? Or is this normal and will go away?

What you're seeing is likely the small blood vessels of the eye and pigmentation of the cornea. This is typically very normal, but if you are concerned you should take Dunbar to the vet for an ocular exam.
