Potty training my young Husky puppy: Is it behavioral or too early?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 5 months and 18 days old | 30 lbs

Does the fact that my dog is possibly inbred contribute to my inability to potty train her? I've tried a bell at the door, I've tried to get her to be more audible by asking if she needs to go outside and when the door is open, she knows to go outside. She can't tell me she needs to go outside unless she is kenneled. Am I asking too much too early or is there something else wrong? It seems behavioral. Or is it me?

It's hard to say at this point if mentally Zoe is affected by inbreeding or if she is just young. Huskies do not mentally mature until about 2 years old. Most dogs are not fully housebroken until a minimum of 6 months old. I recommend to continue crate training her as your primary house breaking method. Continue to encourage her to use the bell. Continue to monitor her closely anytime she is not in the kennel. Be patient and consistent. I hope this helps.
